We are proud to be an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Our accreditation demonstrates our commitment to the highest standards of veterinary care. AAHA regularly inspects our hospital to ensure that we comply with the association’s standards for facilities, equipment, and quality procedures. AAHA standards are recognized around the world as the benchmark for quality care in veterinary medicine.  Approximately 15 percent of US animal hospitals are accredited by AAHA.

We are pleased to provide our services to pets and owners in Windham and across Southern New Hampshire, Pelham, Salem, Derry, Londonderry, Hudson, Hampstead, Atkinson, Dracut, Lawrence, Merrimack, Sandown and Plaistow.  We have clients from across Maine, Vermont and New England to consult with Dr. Magnuson for their avian and exotic pets as well.

    Dr. Melissa Magnuson is a native of southern Minnesota where she grew up on a small pig and cattle farm. Ever since she can remember, she wanted to be a veterinarian and fulfill her life-long passion of helping animals. With a degree in Biology and Philosophy from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, she went on to work on a Masters Degree at Southern Mississippi University. From there, she completed her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota in 1998. Her internship in small animal medicine, surgery and emergency medicine at Bulger Animal Hospital in North Andover brought her to the East coast. Melissa has a special interest in surgery, emergency medicine and avian and exotic animal care.

    Melissa is married to her best friend Andy, and they have 3 beautiful daughters, Emma, Elise and Eva. Her pets include 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 birds, two hamsters and dozens of fish. In her spare time she enjoys playing with her children outdoors, biking, hiking, swimming, and reading. Dr. Magnuson never feels like she is at work because she absolutely LOVES veterinary medicine. She feels very lucky to have found her passion.

  • Dr. Patti Dressel

    Dr. Patti Dressel is a New England native, growing up in Massachusetts and completing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pre-Vet/Animal Sciences from the University of Vermont. Dr. Dressel then moved to Colorado to continue her education and fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian.  She earned a Master of Science Degree in Anatomy and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Colorado State University. She worked in a large twenty-four hour general practice/emergency clinic in Baltimore, Maryland for two and half years following graduation from veterinary school. She then worked in southern New Hampshire for several years. Her passions include diagnosis and treatment of complicated cases, surgery and emergency medicine.  Developing and maintaining a client bond is very important to her.
    Dr. Dressel is happy to be back in New England closer to family and friends. Her family is very important to her and includes her husband Rob, daughter Ryleigh and son Evan. She has three rescued animals, two mixed breed dogs, Kezar and Kyna and cat, Keagan. You may find her at a Patriots or Red Sox game, as she was born and raised a New England sports fan, and this has never changed. She also enjoys spending time outdoors, especially with her family.

  • Julie Stockbridge

    Practice Manager
    Julie joined Canobie Lake Vet when they first opened in 2005. Prior to that, Julie worked with advertising agencies in the greater Boston area for 19 years. She has had extensive training working with clients in customer service and sales. Julie is certified in Reiki II and certified in Advanced Allergy Therapeutics and she enjoys helping animals using these modalities. Julie resides with her husband Neil and their Guinea Pig Ganesh. Julie’s interests include yoga, reading, figure ice-skating and hiking.

  • Jeffrey Frechette

    Human Resource and Safety
    Jeffrey graduated from Keene State College with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Sociology in 2007.  He has over 8 years of customer service experience working in both retail and hospitality before joining our team.  While Jeffrey loves all animals he has a special interest in exotics and has owned or fostered more than he can count.   Jeffrey currently has two adorable mix breed dogs named Kafka and Ophelia.  Jeffrey enjoys being outdoors, hiking, camping, swimming, and also loves to cook.

  • Kerri Staruk

    Certified Veterinary Technician
    Lead Technician/Inventory Manager

    Kerri joined our team in 2008 after aspiring to be part of the veterinary world. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in 2011, where she studied biology and psychology. She is currently in graduate school furthering her education in biology, and she is particularly interested in parasitology and microbiology. Kerri passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination in 2012 to become a certified veterinary technician, and is a member of NHVTA, NAVTA, ASM, and ASP.  In her free time, she enjoys reading, sushi, traveling, and pet-sitting. Kerri shares her home with a variety of tropical fish, Prince Aidan - a Fire-Bellied Toad, Fiona-Darla Ralphina Delaney - a Red-Footed Tortoise, and a rescue cat named Harold.

  • Sara Cantara

    Veterinary Technician
    Sara has been working as a veterinary technician for 9 years and joined our team in 2010. She has a strong interest in radiology and phlebotomy and is excited to expand her knowledge of exotics, especially large avian breeds.  Her hobbies include horse training and riding.  She has a variety of pets: 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 2 horses.

  • Maria West

    Veterinary Technician
    Growing up Maria had a long standing interest in animal health and behavior.  She went on to get her Dog Training Certification from Animal Behavior College in Northridge California. Since then she has spent the last six years working as both an Adoption Councilor and Veterinary Technician for the Humane Society for Greater Nashua. She began working part time at All pets Veterinary Hospital in 2011 and now is a full time Veterinary Technician at Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital. When not working, Maria enjoys spending time with her husband Jason, and their two cats, Patience and Jodi.

  • Shannon Staruk

    Technician Assistant
    Shannon has been a part of our team since 2011. She is a student at Dracut High School and is looking to pursue a career in the sciences. Shannon enjoys being around animals here at Canobie Vet and was inspired to rescue a senior guinea pig, Jelly Bean. Like her sister Kerri, she enjoys sushi, traveling, and pet-sitting. Shannon is a hard worker and is looking forward to eventually becoming a veterinary technician.
